Week 1: A Summary

Sorry if I seem scattered but this is going so fast!! A week ago, we had just signed our purchase agreement, outlining some of our concepts for things we thought we would want in the house. Yesterday, after about a week of intense document collection (thank God for paperless banking!), we met with NVR to discuss financing. We were told then that without a final "approval" more or less, we were approved to start construction, and now our Sales Manager (B) says we could break ground in two weeks! Oh, and we'd be living there before the end of December!!

WHOA!

Despite my need for a slow and steady pace I'm finding myself only a little overwhelmed. Truly, everyone has been super helpful along the way and I really do feel like all my questions are getting answered. The hard part is making decisions RIGHT NOW that Hubs and I have to live with for the rest of our lives.

Now, that's pressure.

Selections meeting is next week and I am terrified! I can recognize style when I see it but haven't ever needed to make the choices about it! How did you guys all get ready for this meeting? Just Google image every house you could? I know that I can say that all the awesome Ryan homebuilding blogs have been so, SO helpful in getting me in the right mindset. But I'm still scared!

  1. Hi! We drove around different neighborhoods to look at different exterior color combinations. As far as selecting options for the inside of the house, we just went with what we thought would look good. I guess we won't really know how that looks until the house is done. Btw, congrats!!!

    1. Thanks! I'm pretty sure I've creeped out my entire new neighborhood following your advice, haha! But it really is so hard to know what you're going to want by looking at a little swatch of colors! The drive-bys are super helpful.

  3. Just found your blog. I had an idea of what I wanted from looking at a bunch of model homes. I found blogs very helpful also since you can find most of the siding colors on an entire house. Plus with the flooring I knew what I wanted before the meeting and I told our rep and I got everything I wanted. Ask for a list of the choices of siding and stone and google away. You will find most of them on blogs. If you want to see one in person ask your rep if there is a house being built or a model close by for you to visit.

  4. We stopped by a few models in our RH district, always verifying who the flooring vendor was. It was definitely helpful in figuring out what options we really wanted. Also, the actual showroom had harsh lighting, so the colors appeared slightly different than how they'd look under sunlight or the light that will be in our home

  5. I'd go with the color palate that you enjoy. For us it was blues/grays so when we saw the siding choices, there was only one gray siding. Made it easy! I think the cabinets/kitchen were the hardest choice for us, we either wanted espresso or maple butterscotch so I scoured pinterest to help me. They wouldn't let us do a two tone so we went with a dark hardwood and the maple butterscotch cabinets. We are definitely into a more modern look so check out my blog if that's your thing. ournewhomeflorence.blogspot.com

    1. I've been checking up on your blog and I love your style! Your final pictures look fantastic. I think I'm a little stuck because we have all this furniture already and we don't have the money or desire to replace everything all at once, but I'm not sure I want to force my house to match my current furniture.. Ha! I'm just going to live in a little mismatched home for a while..
